“I love Dud's Erotica, and so will you and your lover(s).” - Annie Sprinkle, Ph.D.
Internationally Acclaimed Artist and Sexologist
Dudley Morton Gifford, “Dud”, was born October 30, 1914. He had an affinity for art from an early age and by his teens was drawing regularly. He graduated from Colgate University in ‘38. In 1941 he was drafted into the Army where he worked as an artist until his discharge. He attended Alfred University from ’46 – ‘48. In the '60s he started creating erotic art.
His fascination with the nude form was cultivated during his formal art training. His dedication to the erotic was born out of the liberalization of sexual attitudes during the '50s and the explosion of sexuality during the '60s and '70s.
Dud’s erotic work runs the gamut from rough pencil sketches, pen and ink drawings, single panel cartoons, to full color illustrations and paintings.
He drew everyone. Big, small, large, thin, young, old, blonds, brunettes, redheads, everyone. He drew naked ladies and naked men, detailed vaginas and penises, breasts and behinds. Everyone he drew was unique, springing forth from his imagination; he did not use models or work from photographs. While in college he would copy the work of the masters; he would copy images from books or go to museums and paint or draw whatever he sat in front of. Through repetition he committed a large variety of figures to memory that he could call up from his mind’s eye and transfer to his canvas.
Dudley was a very prolific artist who created art every day. Drawings, paintings, sculpture, pottery… His erotic work was a mere fraction of the art he created. All of Dud’s erotica is drawn with enthusiasm, humor, and joie de vivre. He passed away in 1997 having created his own unique erotic art for over 30 years.
Dud’s work has been featured on the Art of Love and The British Museum of Erotic Art web sites, in Jade magazine, and he was accepted into the 2009 Dirty Show. Dud’s erotica can be viewed at his web site, Dud's Erotica, where limited edition Giclées of his work are available.
